About J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 in Chipping Sodbury near Bristol, England. Her real name is Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She graduated from Dexter University. Then she  moved to Portugal in 1990 to teach English. After her divorce she was struggling to live off of welfare and came up with the idea for Harry Potter. It got changed from "Harry Potter and the Philosifers Stone" to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone" so it could be published in America. By 2000 the first three Harry Potter books earned $480 million in three years. Over 35 million copies in 35 different languages. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" first printed in July 2000 with 5.3 million copies and 1.8 million pre-orders. the 5th harry Potter hit book stores in June 2003. The 5th Harry Potter sold 6.9 million copies in the first 24 hours in the U.S. only, the largest book opening ever. Before its 2007 release the 7th and final book to the series was the largest pre-ordered book ever. 
    The Harry Potter books started being made into blockbuster movies in 2001. The final harry Potter book is so amazing that it is being made into two different movies, Part1 and Part 2. The production of the movies is expected to end in 2011.
    J.K. Rowling is now Britans 13th whealthiest woman(ever richer than the queen). she doesn't plan on writing any more books in the series but hasn't completely rejected the idea. 
    Even though her Harry Potter series is finished she continues to write more books. Her latest book, The Tales of Beetle the Bard, hit the shelves on November 4th, 2008. On December 6, 2001, Rowling married Dr. Niel Murrey. They have had two kids together, David(2003) and Mackenzie(2005). She is currently living happily in their home in Scotland.
