Summary
Conflict-The conflict in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is, that at the Quiddich World Cup the "Dark Mark" was sent into the sky. That means that Lord Voldemort has or is going to return to power. That is a major problem because the last time Voldemort was in power he nearly destroyed everything in the magic and muggle world. And, that there is someone at Hogwarts that wants Harry gone. we know so because someone put his name into the "Goblet of Fire" when Harry is obviously to young and it is way too dangerous for a forth year to compete in.
Antagonist Motovation-Voldemort is the antagonist of the story. He wants to kill Harry so he can rise to power again. If he rises to power again then he is in total control of the world, wizarding and muggle.
Protagonist Motovation-Harry Potter is the protagonist in the story. He is continuing to compete in the tournament, to win and gain eternal glory is one part the other is because he has too but he starts to warm up to the idea later on. He is also fighting against Voldemort to keep him from rising back to power and taking control of the world.
Climax- The climax of the story is when Harry is in the graveyard fighting Voldemort. This is the most exciting part of the book and is definatly a turning piont in the book. Harry and Cedric are the final two left in the final task of the Trwizard Tournament and they decide to touch the cup at the same time so they would both win, but the cup is a portkey(a way of transportation in the wizarding world) and it takes them to a greveyard, the graveyard in which Tom Riddle is burried in(Tom Riddle is the person that Voldemort was as a child). Wormtail(one of Voldemort's Death Eaters) kills Cedric.Using a spell and a potion Wormtail is able to bring Voldemort back into human form. When Voldemort is back in human form he wants to have a duel with Harry, so they do. But their wands seemed to connect with each others, and then Voldemort's wand started to reverse. Harry saw Cedric's ghost and the ghost's of his parets. They told him how to break the conection and get back to Hogwarts.
Outcome-The outcome of the book is that, Harry escapes Voldemort and brings Cedric’s body to back Hogwarts. Then Harry figures out why things were going bad at Hogwarts. It was Professor Moody. Someone was using Polyjiuce Potion to pretend to be Moody. That someone was Barty Crouch Jr., Mr. Crouch’s son. He was the problem. He was at the center of the whole plan to kill Harry. He rigged everything. He was also the one to put Harry’s name in the "Goblet of Fire".
Chapter 9-The Dark Mark(Beginning)-This is the beginning of the book because it is where all the action and important events start to happen. In this chapter Harry, Hermione, Ron, Fred, George, Ginny and Mr. Weasly are all at the Quiddich World Cup. Once they are back at the campsite and everyone has gone to bed panic erupts outside the tent. The Death Eaters came to the campground and set fire to tents and captured a family of muggles. Mr. Weasly woke everyone up and they told them to run back to the portkey and he would catch up later. Fred, George and Ginny get separated from Harry, Ron and Hermione. Once Harry, Ron and Hermione feel they are far enough, they stop to wait for Fred, George and Ginny. Then all of a sudden the screaming gets louder and a crowd starts coming. They look up into the sky and they see a green skull with a snake protruding from its mouth. Harry doesn’t know what it is but Ron and Hermione do, and they start to flee immediately, Harry has no choice but to go with them. Harry wants to know what that thing is. Hermione says that it is the Dark Mark, You- Know-Who’s sign. All of a sudden the Ministry of Magic shows up and Crouch accuses them of conjuring the Dark Mark. Mr. Weasly talks some sense into him and he backs off of that idea. Once the Weasly’s and Harry and Hermione get to the portkey everything is fine again, or so they think.
Chapter 23- The Yule Ball(Middle)-This chapter is right in the middle of the book and things are starting to calm down for a moment. This chapter is about the Yule Ball. The Yule Ball is a tradition at Hogwarts. It is held every year on Christmas Eve. And this year the competitors and their dates are to be the first ones on the dance floor. Harry and Ron were not so enthusiastic about it. Harry tried to ask Cho Cheng, his crush, but someone beat him to it. And he realized at the Ball that it was Cedric, now he had a touch of hatred towards Cedric for a moment. But he got past that and ended up going with Pavarti and Ron was going with her twin sister, Padma. And they were both astonished when they saw Hermione with Victor Krum. Hermione had a great time, but Harry, Ron and their dates were just sitting the whole night, they weren’t even talking. But at least Hermione got to let loose and have fun.
Chapter 37-The Beginning(End)-This is really the end of the book because they have the Leaving Feast and the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons Schools leave.But before anything happens Dumbledore tells everyone how and why Cedric Diggory died. He thought it would be an insult to his memory not to do so. After that was the Feast then the two visiting schools left. After that was all done and gone the Hogwarts students had to pack up their things and go. Harry, Hermione and Ron got a booth just for themselves on the Hogwarts Express. And they talked all the way back home. When it was time to get off at Kings Cross station Harry got upset because he knew he had to go home to the Dursly’s. But he also knew he would make it through the summer just fine.
